Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Volleyball (8-10, 5-2 OVC) fell to Murray State (17-1, 7-0 OVC) in three straight sets on Friday evening in Murray Ky.
Senior Jocelyn Youngdahl (Stillwater, Minn.) fired at an average of .316 on the evening with seven kills and only one error along with a team high four blocks. Sophomore Arianna Person (Lenexa, Kan.) led the offense with 15 kills. Redshirt sophomore Emma Price (Fort Mill, SC) dished out 28 assists while Sophomore Emily Richards (Penfield, N.Y.) finished out the evening with 15 digs.
Murray State jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead over Belmont in set one. With a pair of kills from Youngdahl and a block from Price and Youngdahl the Bruins pulled within one at 9-10. The Racers strung together three straight points, which once again took the lead 13-9. Murray would hold onto the momentum and take set one 25-16. Youngdahl recorded four kills and no errors on the set for an average of .444.
Murray carried their momentum into set two taking an early 10-2 lead. Belmont strung together three in a row before Murray State took control once again. The Bruins and the Racers battled point-for-point, in which Murray consistently held at least a five point lead. With Price at the service line Belmont went on a 5-0 run to bring the set within three at 15-18. An ace from Ivancich brought Belmont within two at 23-21, Racers would take the next point but a huge kill from Person took the score to 22-24. One final kill from the Racers would close out set two 25-22.
Belmont came out of the locker room fired up taking four of the first five points of set three. Murray State retaliated by taking the next three points locking the score in at four a piece. The two squads battled point-for-point and both sides held the lead at least in the middle stretch of the set. An ace from Person would tie set three up at 15. Three attack errors from the Racer gave the Bruins a 18-16 lead. The two teams alternated points a kill and an ace from Murray closed out set three 26-14.
