NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Volleyball (14-12, 11-3 OVC) heads down the road on Wednesday, Nov. 11 to faceoff with crosstown rival, and fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Tennessee State (13-13, 8-6 OVC).
In Belmont's first meeting with the Tigers, the Bruins fell short in five sets after dropping the first two sets of the match. Belmont holds a 20-7 overall record to Tennessee State. The Tigers are led offensively by junior outside hitter Chloe Watson who has recorded 372 kills this season along with 72 blocks. Senior libero Madison Halterman was named defensive player of the week this past week and has recorded 504 digs this season. Sophomore setter Samantha Beltran has dished out 982 assists for the Tigers so far this season.
In the last six matches Jocelyn Youngdahl (Stillwater, Minn.) has recorded 66 kills and only six errors on 136 attempts for an average of .441. This past weekend against Tennessee Tech Courtyln Ison (Ooltewah, Tenn.) recorded eight kills and only one error on 17 attempts for an average of .412.
Sophomore Arianna Person (Lenexa, Kan.) is ranked third in kills with 392 (3.92 p/s), second in aces with 41 (0.41 p/s), and third in total points with 452.0 (4.52 p/s). Sophomore Emma Price (Fort Mill, SC) is ranked fifth in service aces with 33 (0.34 p/s) and second in assists with 1000 (10.42 p/s). Sophomore Ellie Ivancich (Naperville, Ill.) is ranked ninth in aces with 32 (0.32 p/s).
With only one week left of conference both Belmont and Tennessee have clinched a spot in the Ohio Valley Tournament that starts on Thursday, Nov. 19. Murray State has clinched the first place seed but the rest of seeds are yet to be determined.
