BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team won their third straight match as they swept Cumberland (Tenn.) 7-0 in a non-conference match held Saturday evening indoors at Brentwood Swim and Tennis Club in Brentwood, Tennessee.
The Bruins earned the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. At number two, sophomores Laura Van Eeckhoudt and Abbie Mather swept Tarsha de Souza and Gisela Amor Garcia 6-0, while at number three, junior Ann Lauren Fiepke and freshman Suzanna Stapler beat Trinidad Aguirre and Franki Jecker 6-1. The match at the number one position was unfinished since the doubles point had been determined.
In singles, Belmont swept all six singles matches to earn the 7-0 victory over the Bulldogs. At one, sophomore Lindsey Whitehead beat Angelica Sepulveda 7-6, 6-2. Then at number two, Van Eeckhoudt defeated Alena Gizdic 6-0, 6-0. Junior Kendall Warren won at number three over de Souza 6-3, 6-0, while at four, Mather beat Gisela Amor Garcia 6-4, 6-4. At the five spot, Stapler notched a win over Jasmine Shankar 8-3, while Fiepke defeated Aguirre 8-2.
Belmont (3-4) is back in action tomorrow as they play at Tennessee. The match is set for 3:00pm CT in Knoxville.
