BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team posted their first win of the spring season as they defeated North Alabama 6-1 in a non-conference match played indoors on Friday evening at the Brentwood Swim and Tennis Club in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Belmont took the early 1-0 lead when they captured two of the three doubles matches. At number one, sophomore Lindsey Whitehead and junior Kendall Warren swept Natalia Barragan and Avery King 6-0. Then at number three, freshman Suzanna Stapler and junior Ann Lauren Fiepke defeated Sydney Childers and Natalia Moreno 6-1. The match at number two was stopped once the doubles point was clinched.
In singles, the Bruins posted wins at five of the six matches to clinch the 6-1 victory. At number two, sophomore Laura Van Eeckhoudt beat Mayte Calmet 6-1, 6-1, while at number three Warren defeated Natalia Barragan 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Abbie Mather captured a win at number four as she swept Avery King 6-0, 6-0. In the fifth position, Stapler beat Natalia Moreno 8-5, while at six; Fiepke defeated Morgan Jose 8-0.
The women's tennis team will be back on the court tomorrow (Saturday) morning as they play at Alabama-Huntsville. The match is set for 10:00am in Huntsville.
