COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team lost their third straight match as they were edged by Tennessee Tech 4-3 in a hard fought OVC match played Friday in Cookeville, Tennessee. The match was delayed twice due to rain.
Belmont took the early early 1-0 lead as they captured two of the three doubles matches. After the Golden Eagles won the match at number one, Belmont posted wins at positions two and three. At number two, sophomore Cedric Dujacquier and freshman Caio Niel beat Eduardo Mena and Alvaro Cintas 8-5. Then at number three, junior Robin Demasse and sophomore Bruno Russo defeated Artem Tarasov and Jorge Alfonzo 8-6.
In singles, the Golden Eagles went up 2-1 with wins at positions six and three. Belmont responded with wins at positions one and four to go up 3-2. At one, senior Mauricio Antun outlasted Alex Arovin 6-3, 0-6, 6-0. Then at four, Demasse beat Alvaro Cintas 6-3, 7-6. However, Tech earned wins in the matches at five and two to clinch the 4-3 victory over the Bruins.
Belmont (6-8, 1-3) returns to the court tomorrow as they play at Jacksonville State. The match is set for 10:00am.
