NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team picked up their second straight conference victory as they beat Eastern Illinois 6-1 in an OVC match played Tuesday afternoon at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
Belmont took the early 1-0 lead as they posted doubles wins at positions one and three. At one, senior Marko Lovrinovic and Mauricio Antun outlasted Robert Skolik and Preston Touliatos 8-6. Then at three, junior Robin Demasse and sophomore Bruno Russo defeated Grant and Trent Reiman 8-5.
The Bruins continued their solid play in singles action as they captured wins at the first five singles positions to clinch the 6-1 victory over the visiting Panthers.
At position one, Antun beat Robert Skolik 6-4, 6-3. Fellow senior Lovrinovic won at number two by retirement due to an injury by EIU's Ryan Henderson in the second set. At three, sophomore Cedric Dujacquier won in straight sets over Preston Touliatos 7-5, 6-1. Demasse was victorious at number four as he beat Rui Silva 7-6, 6-0, while at five, Russo defeated Trent Reiman 6-1, 6-2.
Belmont (8-8, 3-3) returns to the court on Friday as they play at Austin Peay. The match is set for 10:00am in Clarksville.
