NASHVILLE, Tenn.— The Bruins faced a tough weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play dropping the series 2-1 to Austin Peay. The Bruins record drops to 18-15 overall and 9-5 in conference play. Baseball now looks forward to two mid-week contests. On Tuesday the Bruins travel down the road to face defending National Champions, Vanderbilt in their first matchup of the season at Hawkins Field. On Wednesday The Bruins travel to Memphis to face the Tigers in the second consecutive week at FedEx Park.
Once again leading at the plate for the Bruins is Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) who is on the verge of reaching the leader board for four single season records and two more career records. He currently leads the team in hits, doubles, and RBIs. Starting on the mound for the Bruins on Tuesday is Patrick McGrath (Jackson, Tenn.). This will be McGrath's 7th start this year. In nine appearances McGrath has posted a 5.40 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 35 innings of work.
Vanderbilt (29-9, 11-4 SEC) dropped two games this past weekend in conference play to Ole Miss. Leading at the plate for the Commodores is Dansby Swanson batting .361 in his 37 games played. Swanson leads the team in almost all categories and currently holds a .639 slugging percentage. Not too far behind is Zander Wiel who is hitting .333 on the season with a team high 37 RBI. Starting on the mound for the Commodores will be lefty John Kilichowski. Kilichowski (2-1) has made 8 appearances for Vanderbilt and has posted a 3.58 ERA with 44 strikeouts and in 37.2 innings pitched He holds batters faced to a .245 batting average.
Memphis (22-10, 5-4 AAC) enters the week after dropping two to Cincinnati over the weekend. Leading at the plate in batting average for Memphis is Kane Barrow batting .375 he leads the team with 48 hits. Tucker Tubbs posted a strong week for the Tigers and was named AAC hitter of the week as well as Louisville Slugger national Player of the Week. He leads the team with 9 home runs and 35 RBI. Since both the Bruins and Tigers play on Tuesday, probably starters are TBD.
