Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Tenn.-- Despite putting 9 runs on the board, Jacksonville state returns with 15 of their own to take the series sweep and the 15-9 victory.
Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a great day at the plate and went four for five at the plate with three runs and two RBI. He recorded two doubles and two singles. Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) went two for four with two runs and four RBI.
The Bruins took an early lead in the first plating two runs on three hits. Drew Ferguson led off the game with a double to right field. Tyler Fullerton (pushed Ferguson home with a home run down the left field line. Tyler Walsh (Evansville, Ind.) singled later in the inning but was left stranded.
The Gamecocks took a two run lead in the third with a grand slam by Ryan Sebra. Despite the lead, the Bruins returned in the fourth with six runs all scored with two outs. Alec Diamond led off the inning reaching first on an infield error. The gamecocks gave up two walks to load the bases before heading to the bullpen. With two outs and bases loaded, Drew Ferguson hit a 2 RBI single to left field. Still with two outs and runners on the corners, Fullerton stepped to the plate and hit a single to left field to plate runner on third. Matt Beaty delivered next with a triple down the right field line to pick up another two RBIs and record his third triple of the season. The hitting continued with a single by Nick Egli (Brentwood, Tenn.) which plated Beaty. After the fourth innings the Bruins still held the lead 8-6.
Another run was scored by the Bruins in the six thanks to a sacrifice fly by Tyler Fullerton who plated Ferguson who had reached off his second double of the game.
The Bruins three run lead did not hold to the 6 run inning the Gamecocks had in the sixth inning. Josh Tubbs (Camden, Tenn.) recieves the loss on the mound.
The Bruins are now .500 overall and in Ohio Valley Conference play. They return to Rose Park on Tuesday to host Vanderbilt in their second matchup of the season. Last outing against the Commodores the Bruins won 3-2 at Hawkins Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM at Rose Park.
