NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont softball couldn't overcome a hot-hitting effort from Jacksonville State (32-15, 15-6 OVC) Sunday afternoon as the Gamecocks captured the three-game series, 2-1, after a 14-1 victory in five innings of play.
JSU used a pair of big innings in order to put separation between the two teams as the Gamecocks recorded a combined 10 hits and 10 runs in the second and fifth innings.
Playing in her final home game at Rose Park, senior Heather Turner (Rosenburg, Tex.) put the Bruins on the board in the home half of the second inning as the veteran outfielder used an RBI ground out to second base in order to drive home freshman Taylor Hodge (Maryville, Tenn.). The RBI was Turner's second of the season and 37th of her career.
BU finished with four hits on the afternoon from four different Bruins. Senior Kat Hollingsworth (Carrollton, Texas) closed out her home career for the Bruins going 1-for-2 at the plate.
The single to first base was her team-high 40th of the year and moved her total to 181 for her career. The total ranks second-most in program history.
BU's five person senior class, consisting of Turner, Hollingsworth, Kirbie Ferrell (Pasadena, Tex.), Katie Clancy (Pasadena, Calif.) and Amanda Criscione (Upland, Calif.), were honored in a ceremony prior to first pitch.
Belmont (11-31, 6-15 OVC) wraps its 2015 campaign with a three-game series at Tennessee State this weekend.
The Bruins are set for a single contest Saturday evening at 5 p.m. and will conclude the series with a Sunday doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. CT.
