CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their first OVC win of the season as they defeated Austin Peay 4-2 in a match played Saturday indoors at the Governors Tennis Center in Clarksville.
Because of inclement weather and time constraints, singles matches were played first and the doubles matches were bypassed since the match result was determined in singles play.
The Bruins posted their first OVC win by earning wins in four of the six matches. At number two, sophomore Laura Van Eeckhoudt outlasted Hannah Tatlock 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Then at number three, junior Kendall Warren defeated Vanessa Tavares 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Suzanna Stapler posted a win at five as she defeated Isabela Jovanovic 6-3, 7-5, while at six; sophomore Maddie Gilley beat Jovana Karac 6-2, 6-3.
Belmont (4-12, 1-4) is back in action tomorrow (Saturday) as they host Murray State at 11:00am at Centennial Sportsplex.
