NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team defeated Tennessee State 5-1 in their home finale played Thursday afternoon at Centennial Sportsplex.
Because of the threat of inclement weather, singles matches were played first and the doubles matches were bypassed since the match result was determined in singles play.
The Bruins cruised to victory by posting wins in five of the six singles matches. At number one, senior Mauricio Antun beat Darryl Hale 6-0, 6-0. Fellow senior Marko Lovrinovic picked up his seventh OVC victory as he won at number two over Joe Daniels 6-3, 6-2. At three, sophomore Cedric Dujacquier defeated Daniel Bernal 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Caio Niel was victorious at number five as he outlasted Grant Maddox 4-6, 6-2, 7-6, while junior Hans Nardelli won by forfeit at number six.
Belmont (10-9, 5-4) has now concluded the regular season. They now wait to see if they qualify for the OVC Tournament which will be determined on Saturday.
