NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team swept Tennessee State 6-0 in their home finale played Thursday afternoon at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.
Because of the threat of inclement weather, singles matches were played first and the doubles matches were bypassed since the match result was determined in singles play.
The Bruins cruised to the match victory after capturing all six singles matches. At one, sophomore Lindsey Whitehead defeated Attallash Eiland 6-0, 6-0. Then at two, junior Kendall Warren picked up her fourth OVC win of the season as she defeated Phyllicia Hemphill 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Suzanna Stapler also captured her fourth conference win of the season as she beat Adrianne Presley at number three 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Abbie Mather won at four over Brittney Harris 6-0, 6-0. At the fifth position, sophomore Maddie Gilley was victorious over Nicole Madden 6-0, 6-0, while at six, junior Ann Lauren Fiepke beat Corlisia Clark 6-0, 6-0.
Belmont (5-14, 2-6) is back on the court tomorrow afternoon as they play at Southeast Missouri State. The match is set for 2:00pm in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
