JACKSON, TENN.—The 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Bracket is set and Belmont picked up the No. 6 seed. This is the second time in three years that the Bruin have made an OVC Tournament appearance and the fourth time in five years that the Bruins have entered tournament play. The Bruins picked up back to back A-Sun Conference championships in 2011 and 2012.
In the Bruins Inaugural year in the OVC the Bruins made the OVC Tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Bruins dropped their first game of the tournament to Southeast Missouri before picking up a win against Jacksonville State. The win against Jacksonville brought them back for a rematch against SEMO where the fell 2-1 at The Ballpark at Jackson.
Looking ahead to the Game One of OVC Tournament:
The Bruins will play their first game on Wednesday night at 7PM against the No. 3 SIUE Cougars. The Bruins were picked to finished 8th in the OVC whereas the SIUE Cougars were chosen to finish 6th. SIUE (20-28, 19-11 OVC) enters the Tournament for the third consecutive year and have won 7 conference series throughout the season. Leading at the plate for the Cougars is Alec Saikal who is batting .315 with 58 hits, 40 RBIs, and 10 home runs.
The Bruins took the No. 6 seed with their 11-5 victory over SEMO on Friday. Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) continue to lead the Bruins at the plate. Ferguson is currently batting .378 and leads the team with 66 runs, 24 doubles, and 24 stolen bases. Beaty is batting .380 and leads the team with 84 hits, 12 home runs, and 73 RBI. Both Bruins continue to move up in the Bruins career and single season records book.
