Brooms Are Out

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Patrick McGrath has another solid outing on the mound helping the Bruins to a 7-1 win over the Racers and the series sweep. The Bruins won 7-1 on Sunday at Rose Park.

McGrath (Jackson, Tenn.) pitched seven innings for the Bruins placing multiple goose eggs on the board throughout. He allowed only three hits in the seven innings and struck out three.

Brennan Washington (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) went three for four at the plate with a run and RBI, all three hits were singles.

The Bruins started swinging their bats and making good contact in the third inning with Washington leading off the inning. Washington singled up the middle to start off the inning. Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.) followed up with another single up the middle and advanced to second. With runners in scoring position, Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) hit a double plating both runners. He advanced to third on a throwing error. The last run scored off of a ground out.

In the fourth inning, Washington delivered once again with a single through the left side to plate Tyler Walsh (Evansville, Ind.) who previously reached on a bunt single.

A solo shot by Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) which was barely fair down the left line tacks another run on the board for the Bruins in the fifth.

After two innings held scoreless, the Bruins returned in the top of the eighth expanding their lead with a two RBI triple down the right line by Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.). This was Diamond's first triple of the season and 59th hit.

Murray State drops to 14-35 overall and 9-15 in the OVC. They recorded one run on six hits. They plated their only run in the top of the ninth by ways of a fielder's choice.

The Bruins improve their record to 25-21 overall and 13-10 in the OVC. The Bruins travel this week to the University of Tennessee to take on the Volunteers in their second match-up of the season.
