NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont volleyball returns home on Tuesday to face off with cross-border rival Western Kentucky.
"What an opportunity to play against WKU, they are consistently at the top of their conference while making it to the NCAA tournament each year," said Head Coach Tony Howell. "A very talented team with a very strong leader in Travis Hudson."
Belmont comes into this match tomorrow with a 3-6 record after dropping two matches to very strong programs at Ole Miss. Bruins lost to an undefeated Southern Mississippi and a Ole Miss team who has only one loss so far this season.
WKU went 2-1 on the weekend capturing the 2015 Holiday Inn University Invite. Junior Georgia O'Connell took home the MVP of the tournament after recording 60 digs in three games. Senior Noelle Landenkamp and Sophomore Jessica Lucas were also named to the all-tournament team this past weekend.
This past weekend Sophomore Arianna Person (Lenexa, Kan.) was named to the all-tournament team at the Ole Miss Rebel Classic. Person recorded 41 kills on 109 attempts for an average of .211. Person also recorded 30 digs on the weekend.
"It will be fun to play against a team that is so well trained and disciplined, "said Howell. "We will need to be ourselves, creative, disciplined and read WKU. We will need to read multiple areas for they are very balanced offensively. They always present an exciting challenge for us and we look forward to this challenge."
This marks the 17th meeting in the series, with the Hilltoppers claiming the previous 16 matches.
First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. CT from the Curb Event Center. The match will be broadcast live on the OVC Digital Network.
