NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont-Lipscomb rivalry will return to Curb Event Center for the first time since 2011 when Belmont left the Atlantic Sun Conference. Match is set to be record breaking night where the goal will be to try and break the single-game home attendance record for volleyball.
"This will be the second match that we will have with Lipscomb since there was a break in the Belmont and Lipscomb rivalry, the Battle of the Boulevard as you could say," said Head Coach Tony Howell. "It is good to have Brandon and his group back here at Belmont."
Belmont comes into this match tomorrow with a 3-7 record after dropping a match last week to Western Kentucky. This match will close out Belmont's preseason as they head into conference play this weekend
The Lady Bisons currently have a record of 6-6. Lipscomb started the season 3-0, beating No. 23 ranked Utah to take home the Utah Classic. Middle Blocker Jewell Dobson picked up A-Sun Player of the Week after her performance at the Utah Classic. Middle Blocker Molly Spitznagle has recorded an average of .349 with 75 kills so far this season along with 27 total blocks. Dobson with 110 kills on 248 attempts sits with an average of .298, also recording 28 total blocks this season. Libero Brittany Thomas is leading the team defensively with 182 digs.
"They are very balanced offensively and defensively and we are going to have to be very balanced offensively as well in order to compete with them," Said Howell.
In the match against Western Kentucky last week Sophomore Brie Lewis (Lenexa, Kan.) tallied up 12 kills on 27 attempts with only one error for an average of .407. Lewis is hitting for an average of .230 on the season with 110 kills.
"Lipscomb has been ranked, they got an at-large bid last year and this year they had votes to be in the top-20," said Howell. "Tomorrow night is going to be an exciting time to be able to play because both teams are excited for this match."
The two teams are set to face off at 6:00pm tomorrow night, September 22, at the Curb Event Center. At intermission a few lucky attendees will have a chance to serve for a chance to win $5,000.
