BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season as they defeated North Alabama 5-2 Saturday evening at Brentwood Swim and Tennis Club in Brentwood, Tennessee.
North Alabama took the early 1-0 lead as they captured two of the three doubles matches. The lone Belmont win came at number two as juniors Laura Van Eeckhoudt and Abbie Mather beat Avery King and Nele Seitz 6-3.
In singles, the Bruins stormed back and won five of six matches to clinch the 5-2 victory. At one, junior Lindsey Whitehead beat Olivera Ngouabeu 6-2, 4-6, and 7-5. Then at number two, Kendall Warren defeated Donna Haycock 6-3, 6-3. Van Eeckhoudt swept Avery King at number three 6-4, 6-4. Suzanna Stapler won by retirement over Claudia Lastres at number four, while at number six, freshman Mical Johnson bat Morgan Jose 6-2, 7-5.
The women's tennis team is back in action next Saturday, February 6 as they host Dayton at 5:00pm at Brentwood Swim and Tennis Club.
