BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team notched their second win of the season as they swept Cumberland (Tenn.) 7-0 in a non-conference match held Friday evening at Brentwood Swim and Tennis Club in Brentwood.
Belmont (2-2) took the early 1-0 lead as they won two of the three doubles matches. At number two, Laura Van Eeckhoudt and Mical Johnson defeated Franki Jecker and Sarah Edwards 6-3. BU clinched the doubles point when the Phoenix had to default at number three.
In singles, the Bruins posted wins at all six positions to earn the 7-0 match sweep of the Phoenix. At one, Whitehead beat Sepulveda 6-1, 6-1. Then at number two, Kendall Warren defeated Tarsha de Souza 6-2, 6-1. Van Eeckhoudt won at number three over Jasmine Shankar 6-0, 6-0. At four, Suzanna Stapler beat Sarah Edwards 6-1, 6-3, while at number five, Ann Lauren Fiepke defeated Franki Jecker 8-6. BU won at the sixth position by default.
The women's tennis team will be back in action next Friday, February 19 as they play at Alabama-Huntsville. The match is set for 6:30pm.
