NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team halted their five match losing streak as they defeated Eastern Kentucky 4-3 in an OVC match played Friday afternoon at Nashville's Centennial Sportsplex.
The Bruins took the early 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point. At number two, sophomore Stephen Goldman and freshman Zak Khan defeated Diego Asis and Sebastian Mueller 6-4. Then at three, freshman Adam Rudowski and junior Bruno Russo beat Diogo Soares and Indra Patwardhan 6-0. The match the number one was not finished since the doubles point was clinched.
In singles, the Colonels stormed back, earning wins at positions five and six to take the 2-1 lead. The Bruins responded with two wins of their own to take back the lead at 3-2. Junior Cedric Dujacquier beat Ramon van Flymen 6-3, 6-2 at number one, while at four Khan swept Sebastian Mueller 6-3, 6-2. Victory would be determined with the last two matches, which both went three sets.
EKU tied the match at 3-3 as Alex Alvaro outlasted Robin Demasse at number two 3-6, 6-4, and 7-5. Belmont clinched victory when at number three, Rudowski overcame a furious rally by Guillem Sanchis to win 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).
Belmont (5-7, 1-2) is back on the court tomorrow afternoon at 12:30pm as they host Morehead State at Centennial Sportsplex.
