Loss to the Lady Govs

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team fell to Austin Peay 4-3 in an OVC match played indoors on Saturday in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Belmont took the early 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point.  At position one, juniors Lindsey Whitehead and Kendall Warren beat Lidia Yanes Garcia and Helena Kuppig 6-4.  Then at three, freshman Mical Johnson and sophomore Suzanna Stapler defeated Isabela Jovanovic and Hannah Tatlock 6-3.  The match at number two was unfinished.

In singles, the Lady Govs posted wins at the top four positions to clinch the match win over the Bruins.  BU did garner victories at positions five and six.  At five, junior Abbie Mather defeated Brittney Covington 6-3, 1-1, retired, while at six, junior Maddie Gilley swept Jovanovic in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

The women's tennis team (2-14, 0-8) is back in action this Friday as they host UT-Martin at 2:00pm at Centennial Sportsplex.
