NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- After a thrilling doubles point victory, Belmont Women's Tennis was unable to rally in singles action and fell to long-time rival Lipscomb on Friday evening. The Bruins (0-4) were edged 4-3 by the Bisons (1-2) at Centennial Sportsplex.
BU was in fine form in doubles with big wins at Nos. 2 and 3, thanks to Laura Kent (Kangaroo Valley, Australia) and Laura Van Eeckhoudt (Overijse, Belgium) and Abbie Mather (Louisville, Ky.) and Maddie Gilley (Aurora, Ohio), respectively.
Unfortunately, the Bruins were only able to notch wins in Nos. 5 and 6 in singles action. Suzanna Stapler (Alpharetta, Ga.) breezed to an 8-2 win at No. 6 while Mather won by default.
Head Coach Mark Srouji noted that it was a strong battle for the Bruins from top to bottom and that it was another very close match.
Belmont returns to action on Friday, February 3 continuing its homestand at Centennial Sportsplex. The Bruins host in-state rival Chattanooga beginning at 5:30 p.m.
