Win Over UNA

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Women's Tennis dug deep on Friday to earn its first win of the season at home on the courts of the Centennial Sportsplex.  The Bruins held on to beat visiting North Alabama, 4-3.

BU swept the doubles point before redoubling its efforts on the singles side in pursuit of the win.  Belmont earned wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 5, thanks to Laura Kent (Kangaroo Valley, Australia), Kendall Warren (New Braunfels, Texas) and Abbie Mather (Louisville, Ky.).  Lindsey Whitehead (St. Louis, Mo.) battled at No. 2 but was held off down the stretch, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

"Today was a hard fought win for us," said Head Coach Mark Srouji.  "UNA is a solid nationally ranked Division II school."

Belmont returns to action on Saturday, February 11 at home hosting Western Kentucky.  Match time is set for 6 p.m. at the Wildwood Bubble.
