Women's Tennis Edged by Austin Peay

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Women's Tennis, unable to maintain its momentum from its first Ohio Valley Conference victory earlier this weekend, fell at home on Saturday afternoon.  The Bruins (3-10) were edged, 4-3, by in-state rival Austin Peay (4-5) at Centennial Sportsplex.

The Governors barely eked out the win in doubles, picking up wins at Nos. 1 and 3.  The duo of seniors Laura Kent (Kangaroo Valley, Australia) and Laura Van Eeckhoudt (Overijse, Belgium) won at No. 2, 6-3.

In singles action, APSU notched straight set wins at Nos. 1 and 2.  Van Eeckhoudt, playing at No. 3, battled valiantly, going into 10 tiebreaker points before being held off, 7-6, 6-4.  The bottom half of the singles was all Belmont, however.  Seniors Kendall Warren (New Braunfels, Texas) and Abbie Mather (Louisville, Ky.) won in straight sets at Nos. 4 and 5.  Junior Suzanna Stapler (Alpharetta, Ga.) dug deep in her extra set decision at No. 6, coming away with the 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win.

Belmont returns to action on Friday, March 24 with its first OVC road match of the season.  BU faces off against UT Martin at 2 p.m. in Martin, Tenn.
