NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A convincing across the board performance helped Belmont Men's Tennis (8-10, 2-0 OVC) extend its unbeaten streak in Ohio Valley Conference play on Friday. The Bruins blew by visiting Eastern Illinois (3-17, 0-4 OVC), 7-0, at Centennial Sportsplex to improve to 2-0 in conference play.
The Bruins battled hard to swipe the doubles point away from EIU, notching wins at Nos. 2 and 3. The duel at No. 1 between reigning OVC Player of the Week senior Cedric Dujacquier (Feluy, Belgium) and partner freshman Hendrik Inno (Someru, Estonia) against Gage Kingsmith and Grant Reiman went into tiebreaker points before falling the Panthers' way, 7-6 (6-0), giving the team its win of the day.
Duels on the singles side all fell to Belmont from top to bottom with all but two players winning in straight sets. Inno, at No. 3, had to push to a 6-0 tiebreaker to open before going on to take his match, 7-6 (6-0), 6-1. At No. 6, junior Stephen Goldman (Lutz, Fla.) also came out victorious through a tiebreaker set to win, 6-1, 7-6 (6-0).
BU returns to action on Friday, April 7 on the road at Eastern Kentucky. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in Richmond, Ky.
