Tech-nical Loss

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Men's Tennis fell in its final regular season contest of the season on Saturday afternoon on the road.  The Bruins (9-13, 3-3 OVC) were held off by the top team in the conference, Tennessee Tech (11-6, 6-0 OVC), 6-1, slipping to 3-3 in OVC play.  

BU was only able to grab one win in doubles play with the duo of Cedric Dujacquier and Hendrik Inno earning the victory at No. 1, 6-4.  The match at No. 2 barely got away from the team of Stephen Goldman and Zak Khan as they fell, 7-5.

The Bruins hoped to fare better in singles play but were only able to capture one point at No. 6, thanks to a come from behind win, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6, by Bruno Russo.  Dujacquier battled the No. 55 player in the country in the match at No. 1 but was held off, 6-0, 6-4.  Vincent Sterkens was narrowly held off at No. 2, 7-6, 7-6, while Inno, at No. 3, was edged a tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.

Despite the loss, the Bruins punched a ticket to the 2017 OVC Tennis Championship.  The three-day event will take place April 21-23 in Nashville at the Centennial Sportsplex.
