RICHMOND, Ky. -- Another hard fought battle just shy of falling Belmont Women's Tennis' way on Friday in OVC competition. The Bruins (3-15, 1-6 OVC) were held off on the road at Eastern Kentucky (8-9, 4-2 OVC), 5-2.
The Colonels narrowly snatched away the doubles point at the Greg Adams Indoor Tennis Center. BU's duo of seniors Kendall Warren (New Braunfels, Texas) and Lindsey Whitehead (St. Louis, Mo.) won the No. 2 match, 6-3. Unfortunately, the Bruins were held off at both Nos. 1 and 3.
Behind a point in the dual match, Belmont dug in its heels on the hunt for the win with hard work on the singles side. Senior Laura Van Eeckhoudt (Overijse, Belgium) won in straight sets at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4, to get the ball rolling. Fueled by her win in doubles action, Warren battled into a third set to also pull out a win, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Classmate Laura Kent (Kangaroo Valley, Australia) was also pushed into a third set but was held off, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
Belmont returns to action on Thursday, April 13 for its final home match of the regular season. The Bruins host crosstown rival Tennessee State at Centennial Sportsplex. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
