BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Belmont women's tennis team (0-4) team fell to UAB 4-1 in a five hour battle at Samford University in Birmingham Saturday evening.
The Blazers (2-1) took doubles wins at the one and three positions, while the freshman pair Maria Plaksina (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Terra Sheldon (Bowling Green, Ky.) won at number two over Alexanda Shchipakina and Sonia Gryzwocz 6-2.
In singles, UAB clinched the victory as they earned wins at positions one, three and four. Freshman Drew Hawkins (Chattanooga, Tenn.) had the lone singles win for Belmont as she won a tight match in the number two position over Marlene Herrmann, 6-7, 6-2 and 7-6.
The Bruins round out their road trip tomorrow with a match in Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama starting at 10 am.
