Edged by the Lady Govs

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont women's tennis team was edged by Austin Peay 4-3 in an OVC match held Saturday morning in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Belmont took the early 1-0 lead as they swept the Lady Govs for the doubles point. At position one, freshmen Drew Hawkins (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Erin Allen (Knoxville, Tenn.) defeated Lidia Yanes Garcia and Fabienne Schmidt 6-2. Then at number two, freshmen Terra Sheldon (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Maria Plaksina (Boca Raton, Fla.) defeated Ana Albertson and Helena Kuppig 6-2.

To round out the doubles win, Mical Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Sarah Brackin (College Grove, Tenn.) dominated Claudia Yanes Garcia and Brittney Covington 6-0.

In singles, Austin Peay stormed back and posted victories at positions one, two, four, and six to edge the Bruins 4-3. Belmont did pick up wins at two positions. At three, Allen swept Lidia Garcia 6-0, 6-1, while at five, Sheldon won in three sets over Ana Albertson 6-1, 6-7 and 7-6.

The Bruins will be back in action this Friday, March 23^rd as they host UT-Martin at 1:00pm at Centennial Sportsplex.
