CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Belmont women's tennis team was edged by Eastern Illinois 5-2 in an OVC match held Friday afternoon in Charleston, Illinois.
Eastern Illinois took the early 1-0 lead as the won the doubles point. BU won at position two as freshmen Terra Sheldon (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Maria Plaksina (Boca Raton, Fla.) defeated Karla Contreras and Emily Pugachevsky 6-1.
In singles, EIU clinched the match victory as they earned wins at positions one, two, four, and six. The Bruins picked up wins at positions three and five. At position three, freshman Erin Allen (Knoxville, Tenn.) defeated Srishti Slaria 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4 for the win. While at five, Sheldon battled for a three-set win over Contreras 3-6, 4-7 and 7-5.
The Bruins will be back in action this tomorrow as they continue the weekend road play at SIUE at 4:00pm in Edwardsville, Illinois.
