NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Volleyball takes aim for the Ohio Valley Conference portion of its schedule, starting with a midweek tilt. The Bruins (0-12, 0-0 OVC) make the short trip to take on crosstown rival Tennessee State (2-8, 0-0 OVC) on Tuesday night.
The Tigers have won one of their last eight outings to stand at 2-8 coming into their first Ohio Valley Conference matchup. TSU is led in kills by Rachel Henderson and Julia Pierson, who have collected 126 and 112, respectively. Laken Te'o leads in assists with a total of 236 while Gina Rivera Ortiz leads in digs after recording 174.
Belmont leads the all-time series, 21-10. The programs have split the last four matchups.
BU will look to post its first win of the season with this midweek tilt. Senior Maggie Mullins (Nashville, Tenn.) leads the Bruins in kills with a total of 98 followed by sophomore Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas) and freshman Taylor Floyd (Louisville, Ky.), who have contributed 61 and 52, respectively. Freshman Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) leads in assists with a total of 237. Senior Haley Sullivan (Lemont, Ill.) leads in service aces with a total of nine. Mason also leads in digs with a total of 79 followed by Van Poppel, who has notched 71.
