Aiming for Success

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Volleyball is eager to return to floor this weekend to continue Ohio Valley Conference play on the road.  The Bruins (0-14, 0-2 OVC) will travel to Tennessee Tech (6-10, 0-2 OVC) on Friday night before facing off at Jacksonville State (7-8, 0-2 OVC) on Saturday evening.

The Golden Eagles stand in the midst of a seven-match skid as they welcome the Bruins to Cookeville on Friday. The series of losses has TTU at 6-10 overall and 0-2 in OVC play.  Tennessee Tech is led in kills by Rachel Thomas and Ali Verzani, who have recorded 167 and 159, respectively.  Susie Jeziorowski leads the team in assists with a total of 591 while Kirsten Brugere leads in digs with a total of 259.

Belmont leads the all-time series, 16-10.  The Bruins have won the last five matchups between the programs.

The Gamecocks have slipped into a four-match skid heading into this weekend of OVC play. The consecutive losses follow a flurry of wins that have Jacksonville State standing at 7-8 overall and 0-2 in league play. JSU is led in kills by Lena Kindermann, who has tallied 169.  Lexie Libs leads the corps of setters with a total of 607 while Kaylie Milton leads the Gamecocks in digs with a total of 178.

Belmont leads the all-time series, 11-9, and the programs have split the last four meetings.

BU will look to post its first conference win of the season this weekend. Senior Maggie Mullins (Nashville, Tenn.) leads the Bruins in kills with a total of 108 followed by freshman Taylor Floyd (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas), who have contributed 70 and 67, respectively.  Freshman Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) leads in assists with a total of 264.  Senior Haley Sullivan (Lemont, Ill.) leads in service aces with a total of 10.  Sullivan also leads in digs with a total of 110 followed by Mason, who has notched 84. 

 

Friday night's match is set to begin at 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest will have first serve at 8 p.m.  Live stats will be available for each and the contest at TTU can be seen live on the OVC Digital Network.  Fans may also follow the team's Twitter account (@BelmontVB) for live, in-game updates.
