KENNESAW, Ga. – Paced by the individual leader, junior Evan Davis, the Belmont men's golf team is tied for fifth place after day one of the Pinetree Intercollegiate held Monday at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Davis put on spectacular performance on Monday, shooting rounds of 68 and 66 to grab the individual lead at 134 (10-under par). He is one shot ahead of Connor Futrell of Troy, who posted a 135 on day one.
In his two rounds on Monday, the Lexington, Kentucky native posted a total of 12 birdies, one eagle, three bogeys and one double bogey. His second round 66 is the lowest by a Belmont golfer this season and tied for seventh all-time in Belmont's Division I era.
As the team, the Bruins posted team scores of 294 and 293 to finish the day tied for fifth place with fellow OVC member Jacksonville State at 587. Mercer has the team lead at 577, while host Kennesaw State is second at 579.
One other Belmont golfer is among the top-20 is junior Bogle LaRue, who carded a 73 and 75 to finish the day in a tie for 18th place at 148.
Other Belmont scores from day one included: junior Jack Uselton (T-33, 151), freshman Kohl Kuebler (T-47, 154), and freshman Luke Whitney (T-53, 156).
