NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf team opens up its 2019-20 season this Monday and Tuesday at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Bruins enter this year with confidence after a successful 2018-19 season. Last year, the squad won one team title, finished second at the OVC Championship, and overall had five top-five finishes.
Belmont returns six letterwinners from last year's team, including two of their top four players in juniors Evan Davis and Jack Uselton. Davis ranked second on the team last year in scoring at 73.0 and had five top-10 finishes, including a second place showing in Savannah and an eight place finish at the conference championship. This past summer, the Kentucky native lost in a playoff at the Kentucky State Open.
Uselton ranked fourth on the team in scoring average at 74.1 and three top-25 finishes. Like his teammate Davis, Jack had a successful summer, winning the Tennessee Four-Ball Championship with Tennessee Tech golfer, Will Brooks, and finished second at the Tennessee Match Play Championship.
The Bruins have three newcomers on this year's squad. Arizona native Kohl Kuebler qualified for four State Tournaments, finishing second as a senior. Alex Whitehead, a Florida product, also qualified for four State Tournaments and was named to the All-First Coast Boys Golf Team as a senior. Luke Whitney is from Texas and had three wins and nine top-10 finishes on the North Texas Junior PGA Tour.
This week's Marshall Invitational is a two-day, 54-hole event, with 36 holes contested on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. It will be held at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia. It plays to a par 71 and a length of 6523 yards.
