OXFORD, Miss. - - Belmont University men's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision Sunday at Ole Miss from Galtney Indoor Complex.
It was a quick turnaround for the Bruins, who hours earlier faced another strong SEC side in Vanderbilt before heading to Oxford.
Nearly 14 years ago, Belmont faced Ole Miss in the 2006 NCAA Tournament when many of the current Bruins were just able to hold their rackets.
The host Rebels won at first and third positions to earn the doubles' point.
And though Ole Miss swept singles' matches, the Bruins saw several strong performances for the second straight day against Power 5 competition.
Senior Felix Rauch (Osterode, Germany) battled All-America candidate Tim Sandkaulen at first singles, while juniors Marko Ilic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Taisei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) forced set tiebreaks.
Belmont (0-2) returns to match action Friday, Jan. 24 vs. Troy. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT from the Ensworth Tennis Center.
