NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf team kicks off their 2020 spring season this Monday and Tuesday at the President's Day Match Play Championship hosted by George Washington University at The Club at Weston Hills in Weston, Florida.
The Bruins enter the spring season coming off a successful fall campaign. They posted three top-five finishes in five events. Their best finish was a second place finish at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in late October. The squad also had 10 top-20 individual finishes in the fall.
Leading the way for Belmont is a pair of juniors, Evan Davis and Jack Uselton. Davis leads the team and the conference in scoring with a 69.8 average. The Lexington, Kentucky native had four top-20 finishes last fall, including earning medalist honors at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational and the Pinetree Intercollegiate. He also ranks among the top-40 in the nation in five Golfstat statistical categories (scoring, score versus par, par 4 scoring, par 5 scoring, and eagles).
Uselton ranks second on the team and 14th in the OVC in scoring with a 72.2 average. He had two top-20 finishes, which included a fourth place showing at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate last October.
This week's President's Day Match Play Championship is a two-day event held at The Club at Weston Hills in Weston, Florida. The field features eight teams: Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, George Washington, Mercer, Morehead State, and St. Bonaventure. The eight teams will be seeded by Golfstat rankings and placed into two brackets. First round matches are scheduled for Monday morning. The semifinals and consolation matches will be played Monday afternoon, with the finals and all remaining consolation matches held on Tuesday morning.
Belmont, seeded #3, will face #6 seed St. Bonaventure in a first round match beginning on Monday morning at 6:48am CT. They will face either Mercer or Florida Gulf Coast in a semifinal or consolation match Monday afternoon.
