SPARTANBURG, S.C. - - Belmont University men's tennis defeated Wofford, 4-3, Sunday to complete a weekend sweep in the state of South Carolina.
For the second straight day, Belmont dropped the doubles' point but rallied to win.
Overwhelming wins from junior Taisei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) and senior Vincent Sterkens (Antwerp, Belgium) placed the focus on first and second singles to decide the match.
That's where senior Felix Rauch (Osterode, Germany) and junior Marko Ilic (Zagreb, Croatia) demonstrated their poise and all-around games to earn three-set wins and put the Bruins over the top.
"I'm proud of our team for earning two road wins this weekend against quality competition," Belmont Director of Tennis Mauricio Antun said. "Wofford came up with good shots on the big points in doubles, but we did a great job of staying focused and playing the big points wisely in singles. We look forward to another week of practice to sharpen our games and strategy."
Belmont (6-3) returns to match action Saturday, Feb. 29 vs. Dayton. First serve is set for 3 p.m. CT from Ensworth Tennis Center.
