NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team fell 6-1 to the Lipscomb Bisons Friday night at Whitworth Racquet Club.
Sophomore Somer Henry tabbed the Bruins' lone victory from the top spot over Kate Popova of the Bisons, as Lipscomb swept the remaining matches of the evening.
To kick off doubles play, the tandem of junior Drew Hawkins and sophomore Lauren Carelli dropped a hard-fought set to the Bisons, 6-2. Lipscomb clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over the duo of sophomore Peyton Lee and junior Erin Allen.
Belmont was defeated in its first three matches of the singles competition, as the Bisons secured an early victory. However, Henry responded with a thrilling three-set win over Popova from the No. 1 position to tally the Bruins' first victory of the evening. Belmont went on to lose its final pair of matches to round out the evening.
UP NEXT: The Bruins get back to action on March 7, as they travel to Birmingham, Ala. To take on UAB. First serve is slated for 12 p.m.
