NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's tennis defeated UNC Asheville, 7-0, Saturday from Ensworth Tennis Center.
The Bruins returned to winning form, seizing the doubles' point in short order despite senior and two-time OVC Player of the Year Hendrik Inno (Someru, Estonia) on rest.
That provided opportunity for junior Jake Briggs (Marietta, Ga.) to slide into singles' action, were he would take full advantage.
Straight set victories from seniors Felix Rauch (Osterode, Germany) and Vincent Sterkens (Antwerp, Belgium) and junior Taisei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) secured the match win.
However, it was quite competitive at second, third and fifth singles.
Nevertheless, junior Marko Ilic (Zagreb, Croatia), freshman Arthur Toledo (Greenacres, Fla.) and Briggs all won decisive third sets; with the latter two rallying from a set down.
Belmont (4-3) returns to action Saturday, Feb. 15 at Presbyterian.
