BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belmont women's tennis team dropped to the UAB Blazers, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at George Ward Park.
The Bruins (4-4) fell just short of winning the doubles point, as the Blazers (10-4) won the first three singles competitions to clinch an early victory.
After losing the first match of the doubles competition, the tandem of sophomore Somer Henry and junior Terra Sheldon evened the series with a 6-3 victory from the third position. Still, UAB went on to secure the doubles point with a win in the top spot.
The Blazers went on to tab victories on tally three straight-set victories, but junior Maria Plaksina obtained a win in the No. 6 position. Plaksina defeated Alexia Witthaus-Vine in consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-2 to register a Belmont singles victory.
UP NEXT: The Bruins continue their road stint with a neutral-site tournament in Orlando, Fla. Belmont will take on Quinnipiac and Northern Kentucky in the mid-week series.
