PINEHURST, N.C. – Buoyed by their best round of the tournament, the Belmont men's golf team finished in a tie for third place at this weekend's Pinehurst Intercollegiate held at the Pinehurst #8 Course in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
In Sunday's final round, the Bruins posted their best score of tournament, a 287(+3), to move up fourth spots and finish in a tie in third place with Radford at 902. Elon won the team title at 878, while Davidson finished second at 898. It was the program's best finish at Pinehurst since winning the tournament in 2015.
Two Bruins finished among the top-15 at the event. Junior Evan Davis shot an even par 71 in the final round Sunday to finish in seventh place at 221. He finished eight shots behind the individual medalist, Graham Hutchinson of Elon (213). It was Lexington, Kentucky native's third straight top-10 finish and fourth overall in the season.
Fellow junior Bogle LaRue carded a three-over par 74 in the final round to finish alone in 13th place at 226. It was his fourth top-20 finish of the season.
Other Belmont scores from the tournament included: freshman Luke Whitney (T-27, 230), junior Jack Uselton (T-37, 232), and freshman Alex Whithead (T-41, 233).
Redshirt freshman Jack Bergstrom, competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 52nd place at 238.
The men's golf team will take a couple of weeks off before returning to action on March 23-24 at the UNA Spring Classic in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
