CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Carrying their longest conference win streak since 2018, Belmont University volleyball makes the short drive to Clarksville, Tenn., this weekend for a pair of matches against OVC front-runner Austin Peay. 

Winners of three straight OVC contests, the Bruins take their 6-4 conference mark on the road to face the Governors, who have won eight of their first nine OVC matches and currently sit atop the conference standings 

First serve on Friday, Oct. 22, is set for 6 p.m, while first serve on Saturday, Oct. 23, is set for 2 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Alex Gould and Ginny Gerig Busse on the call. Live stats for both matches will also be available on BelmontBruins.com and on the official app of the Belmont Bruins. 

What's Bruin 

  • The Bruins have won three matches in a row, their longest conference winning streak since 2018 

  • Belmont took down Tennessee State on the road 3-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 12, before beating Eastern Illinois twice last weekend at home in thrilling fashion, 3-2 in a reverse sweep on Friday and 3-1 in Saturday's rematch 

  • The last time Belmont won four conference matches in a row was to close out the regular season in 2016 

  • After recording a career-high 11 kills in the 3-2 win over Tennessee State, Carly Mason averaged 46.5 assists over the two matches against Eastern Illinois 

  • Laura Shoopman had a phenomenal weekend against the Panthers, collecting 32 kills on a .324 attack percentage in the two home victories 

  • After Taylor Floyd's 46 kills over the course of the three-match winning streak, the senior from Louisville, Ky., is now tied for sixth in the OVC during conference-only matches, with 122 total kills 

  • Rachel McBride picked up 25 digs, her second-highest total of the season, in Belmont's last match against Eastern Illinois 

  • Peyton Kelley is currently 3rd in the OVC in service aces during conference-only matches, with 13 through ten games 

  • Belmont is currently 5th in the OVC in blocks per set (2.04) 

About the Governors 

  • Austin Peay is a perfect 5-0 at home this season, joining Murray State as the only teams in the OVC without a home loss 

  • The Govs' only loss in conference play was a 2-3 defeat on the road at the hands of Tennessee Tech back on Oct. 8 

  • Austin Peay is coming off a pair of 3-0 wins over Tennessee State this past weekend 

  • Mikayla Powell is the two-time defending OVC Newcomer of the Week. In three matches against Murray State and Tennessee State, the reigning NCJAA Division II Player of the Year averaged 3.73 kills per set with a .430 attack percentage 

  • The Govs currently have three players ranked in the top ten in the conference for hitting percentage: Mikayla Powell (1st, .309), Maggie Keenan (8th, .258), and Jaida Clark (10th, .252) 

Series History 

  • Friday night will mark the 27th all-time meeting between Belmont and Austin Peay 

  • The series is currently tied 13-13 

  • The two teams did not play in the shortened Spring 2021 season 

  • Austin Peay won 11 straight from 1998 to 2004 

  • Belmont won 12 straight from 2005 to 2016
