Box Score RICHMOND, Ky. - - Belmont University volleyball fell in three sets at Eastern Kentucky Sunday.
Junior Taylor Floyd (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Ally Peterson (Kenyon, Minn.) got Belmont off to a positive start. Eastern Kentucky used a 10-2 run midway through Set 1 to seize control.
The Colonels hit .357 in the opening frame to win, 25-12.
Belmont raced out to a 5-1 lead in Set 2 on the serve of junior Peyton Kelley (Normal, Ill.) and had four different Bruins register multiple kills in the frame.
Neither team led by more than two points, including Belmont taking the lead midway through the set on a kill from freshman Kristen Clemons (Louisville, Ky.).
Kills from Clemons and Floyd kept Belmont within 22-21 and 23-22, respectively, but Eastern Kentucky would take the final two points to win a hard-fought set.
Eastern Kentucky stayed in system and was able to connect defense into offense more often in Set 3, riding the play of Molly Michalak to a straight sets win.
Floyd posted 10 points with seven kills, six digs, four blocks and one ace.
The two teams complete the weekend series Monday.
