NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Another road trip is on the horizon for Belmont Volleyball as the OVC heads into its final few weeks of action. The Bruins (1-9 OVC) will travel to Morehead State (10-0 OVC) for a pair of matches Saturday and Sunday in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Morehead State is tied with Jacksonville State for the lead in OVC standings, both with unblemished records of 10-0. The Eagles rank in the top-three in the conference in seven categories: hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage, assists, kills, blocks, service aces, and digs.
Senior Olivia Lohmeier leads the conference in points with a 5.13 average. In kills, she also ranks second in the OVC with a 4.38 per set average. Redshirt freshman McKenzee Wagener is third in the OVC in hitting percentage .376 and in blocks with a 1.10 average. Sophomore Bridget Bessler is second in the conference in assists with a 10.97 average.
Morehead State leads the all-time series, 10-9. The Eagles have won four straight matches against the Bruins. The last Belmont victory came in October of 2017.
Belmont will be on the hunt for another victory with this week's road swing. Junior Taylor Floyd (Louisville, Ky.) who has tallied 83 leads the Bruins in kills. Freshman Kristen Clemons (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Laura Shoopman (Salem, Wisc.) are right behind her, recording 74 and 72 kills, respectively. Junior Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) has posted 254 assists to lead the team. Freshman Rachel McBride (Decatur, Ind.) leads the team in digs, with a total of 142. Clemons has also tallied 19 block assists and a pair of solo stops to lead BU.
