NASHVILLE, Tenn. – This weekend marks regular season home finale for Belmont University Volleyball. The Bruins (1-11 OVC) host crosstown rival Tennessee State (2-10 OVC) for a pair of matches slated for Sunday and Monday.
Tennessee State stands with a record of 2-10 after splitting a pair of matches with Tennessee Tech last weekend. They beat the Golden Eagles in five sets on Sunday, but fell, 3-0, on Monday.
Leading the Lady Tigers in kills (112) and points (126.5) is senior middle blocker Aniya Williams. She is also second on the team in hitting percentage at .217. Sophomore outside hitter Kendall Bullock is second on the team in kills with 91 and has a .142 hitting percentage. Junior setter Kristina Marshall leads TSU in assists with 197.
Belmont leads the series between the two schools, 23-14. TSU has won the last two matches in the series. The last Belmont victory came in October of 2018.
Belmont returns to the friendly confines of the Curb Event Center for one final time this season to face off against crosstown foe TSU. Junior Taylor Floyd (Louisville, Ky.), who has tallied 99, leads the Bruins in kills. Freshman Kristen Clemons (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Laura Shoopman (Salem, Wisc.) are right behind her, recording 87 and 74 kills, respectively. Junior Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) has posted 305 assists to lead the team. Freshman Rachel McBride (Decatur, Ind.) leads the team in digs, with 155. Clemons has also tallied 23 block assists and 5 of solo stops to lead BU.
Both matches will have live stats available. Monday's match will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Prior to the start of the match on Sunday, Belmont will salute its senior class - MacKenzie Harless, Mackenzie LePage and Halee Van Poppel.
