NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team had its win streak snapped by Tennessee Tech, who beat the Bruins 5-2 on Monday at the Belmont Tennis Complex.
Senior Marko Ilic claimed his sixth singles win of the season, officially tying Javier Rodriguez (2004-09) for eighth on the program's all-time career singles wins list with 51. He needs just one more win to tie Renato Antun (2008-13), Felipe Abreu (2003-07) and Felipe Lima (2002-06) for fifth on the list.
The Bruins claimed the doubles point thanks to victories from Ilic/Taisei Miyamoto and Jake Briggs/Arthur Toledo to take an early one-point lead heading into the singles portion of the day. Ilic/Miyamoto claimed their seventh doubles victory of the season to move to 7-1, with the doubles team of Briggs/Toledo picking up their third win in 2021 to move their record to 3-2.
Following Ilic's singles victory, Tennessee Tech claimed the rest of the singles matches to score five points and force the Bruins into their first conference loss of the season.
Belmont (6-2) returns to action on Thursday, facing DePaul at 1 p.m. at the Belmont Tennis Complex. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fan attendance at Belmont home tennis matches will be restricted to a small number of family members of the Belmont tennis team players.
