NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Volleyball will conclude the shortened 2021 spring schedule this weekend on the road. The Bruins (3-11 OVC) travel to in-state foe Tennessee Tech (7-7 OVC) for a pair of matches slated for Sunday and Monday.
Tennessee Tech enters this final weekend of the regular season with a record of 7-7. The Golden Eagles swept its series at Murray State last weekend, beating the Racers 3-0 on Sunday and then 3-2 on Monday.
A pair of outside hitters, Ali Verzani and Madeline Furtado, leads TTU offensively. Verzani, a senior, leads the team with 140 kills and has a hitting percentage of .114. Furtado, a redshirt sophomore, is second on the team in kills with 113 and has a .192 hitting percentage.
Junior Ashley Hand is the team's top passer, leading the team with 506 assists.
Belmont leads the series between the two programs, 16-14, however, Tennessee Tech has won four straight against the Bruins. The last Belmont victory came in November of 2017.
Belmont hits the road one final time during the regular season this week. Junior Taylor Floyd (Louisville, Ky.), who has tallied 129, leads the Bruins in kills. Freshman Kristen Clemons (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Laura Shoopman (Salem, Wisc.) are right behind her, recording 105 and 95 kills, respectively. Junior Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) has posted 305 assists to lead the team and is followed by rookie Izzy Schauer (Watertown, Wisc.) in the category with 143. Freshman Rachel McBride (Decatur, Ind.) leads the team in digs, with 180. Clemons has also tallied 30 block assists and six solo stops to lead BU.
Tennessee Tech is coached by former Belmont assistant Jeannette Waldo.
