Slippery Saturday

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Softball fell in game one of its Saturday doubleheader at Austin Peay before heavy rain and lightning postponed the second game.

The teams stayed locked in a 0-0 stalemate for the first three innings of game one. The Governors exploded in their half of the fourth frame. Using three singles and a walk, Austin Peay was able to add the first of two runs to the board. Another single, this time to left added another to put the home team ahead, 2-0.

APSU added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, with a two-run single and a passed ball. The flurry put the Govs ahead, 5-0. Belmont looked to rally in the top of sixth behind a long single to centerfield by senior Cheyenne Cavanaugh (Spring, Texas) but it was not enough. APSU was able to hold on to take the game by the same score.

Game two entered the top of the second inning before being called off due to heavy rain and lightning in the area.

The contest will resume on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the third game to follow. Live stats will be available and the games can be seen live on ESPN+ and the ESPN app. Fans can follow the team's Twitter account (@BelmontSoftball) for live, in-game updates.
