UT Martin Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University baseball team returns to Rose Park to take on UT Martin on Tuesday at 4 p.m. 

In addition, Belmont Baseball will be taking over the NCAA Baseball Instagram story throughout the day. 

Belmont leads the all-time series with UT Martin 46-26, with the Skyhawks taking two out of the last three games against the Bruins. The Skyhawks took the conference series to open OVC play on March 11-12. 

UT Martin opened up the season with a win at No. 22 Alabama and is off to a 9-10 start heading into Tuesday's game The Skyhawks have a slugging percentage of .437, hitting 26 home runs and 111 RBIs in the process. Their pitching staff has come up with 151 strikeouts to go with a 4.98 earned run average in 2021.

The Skyhawks have three players hitting .300 or better this season, led by Christian Hall. Hall has a .313 batting average to go with six home runs and 23 RBIs and a .656 slugging percentage. Casey Harford holds a .318 batting average in addition to leading the Skyhawks with 21 hits and four seven doubles while hitting two home runs with 19 RBIs. Will Smith adds power, hitting .300 to go with a pair of home runs and 14 RBIs. 

On March 29, 2015 at UT Martin, Belmont Baseball recorded one of the best offensive performances in an inning in NCAA Baseball history. The Bruins set multiple NCAA records, which included 23 plate appearances, 43 total bases, 20 RBIs, and seven home runs. Belmont went on to score 20 runs in the top of the sixth inning, setting multiple program records in the process and winning the game 34-10 while totaling 31 hits.

Game Notes

Catcher Jackson Campbell was named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List. The award is given annually to the top catcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, with Campbell being one of 69 catchers to be named to the list. Campbell is the only catcher representing the Ohio Valley Conference, marking the second time in his career being named to the watch list. 

Head coach Dave Jarvis is eyeing the all-time wins record at Belmont, where he currently has compiled 656 wins in his 24 years as the Bruins' head coach. Jarvis needs just eight more wins to pass Dave Whitten (1969-1997) to become the winningest head coach in program history. Jarvis and Whitten had a close relationship until Whitten's death in 2012, where Whitten served as an assistant and pitching coach under Jarvis from 1998-2000.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m., with live stats being available and Bruin Sports Network scheduled to broadcast the game via online radio.
