MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In its first action in almost a month, the Belmont University men's tennis team collected a dominating win over Alabama State 7-0 on Saturday night.
Saturday's shutout marked the first time since March 11, 2020 against James Madison where Belmont collected all seven of the team points. Senior Marko Ilic collected his 47th career victory with a singles win over Alabama State's Chris Andre in two sets, putting him in a tie with Bruno Silva (2009-13) for 10th on the program's all-time career wins list.
Arthur Toledo remained undefeated in singles on the year at 3-0 with a two-set victory over Ruan Du Preez, with Diego Castro picking up his third win of the season with his singles victory Kristofer Johnson. Belmont's Taisei Miyamoto won his second singles match of the season, coming up with a 10-7 decision in the third set. Freshmen Alfred Wallin and Tomas Luis also picked up victories in singles, with Wallin claiming his third singles victory of the season and Luis coming up with his first collegiate win.
The doubles team of Ilic and Miyamoto moved to 3-1 on the year following a 6-2 victory in their doubles match while Castro and Luis claimed another doubles win to give them a 2-0 mark on the season. Toledo and senior Jake Briggs clinched their first doubles victory of the season, collecting a 6-4 win over Assil Boussayri and Du Preez.
Belmont (3-1) travels to Huntsville, Ala. to take on Alabama A&M on Sunday.
