NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont women's tennis fell to the Austin Peay Governors, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon at Belmont Tennis Complex.
The Bruins (5-8, 2-4 OVC) captured the doubles point early on, but were unable to finish off the Governors (9-3, 4-2 OVC) in singles competition.
Despite dropping its first doubles bout, Belmont took down Austin Peay in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to grab the point. The duo of senior Erin Allen and junior Peyton Lee tabbed a 7-6 win in the top spot, while the seniors Maria Plaksina and Terra Sheldon also finished with a 7-6 victory in the third position.
Sheldon logged a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win from the No. 5 singles spot, but the Governors grabbed four straight wins to secure the match win. Still, senior Sarah Brackin tallied a hard-fought 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory in the sixth singles position.
The Bruins recognized six student-athletes for Senior Day festivities on Tuesday: Erin Allen, Sarah Brackin, Maria Plaksina, Terra Sheldon, Drew Hawkins and Nikki Christiansen.
UP NEXT: Belmont returns to action this Sunday, April 18, as it travels to Jacksonville State to round out the regular season.
